Our story
In 2017, several members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. formed an interest group to begin establishing a new chapter that would service the east side of Houston and beyond. March 30, 2019, this endeavor became a reality. The East Harris Chambers Liberty County Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was chartered within the "Blazing" Southwest Region under the guidance of Regional Director Michelle Brown and National President & CEO Beverly Smith.
Since its inception, East HCLC has made it a mission to "paint the East-side red" by sponsoring and partnering with community initiatives that inspire, uplift, and empower through programs aligned with Delta Sigma Theta's Five-Point Programmatic Thrust: Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement.
Many innovative and traditional programs and projects have been spearheaded and organized by this phenomenal group of women to build and educate local and national communities that are traditionally underserved. Projects have included scholarships to college-bound high school students, back-to-school supply drives, the Haiti Pen Pal Project, support for Melody's House in Jamaica, community health fairs, Delta Days at City Hall and the Nation's Capital, voter registration drives, the R.E.D. Shoe Challenge, Spin Cycle class, Meet the Candidate forums, and human trafficking awareness.
With ninety-five committed women making it the 1,050th chapter of this illustrious sorority, East HCLC took flight and embarked on a mission to educate, empower, and inform residents within its service area. Guided by our leadership, the chapter has demonstrated remarkable success in fulfilling its purpose and has garnered numerous accolades at the local, regional, and national levels.

Sorority History
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was founded on January 13, 1913, by 22 collegiate women at Howard University to promote academic excellence and provide assistance to those in need. The Founders envisioned an organization committed to sisterhood, scholarship, service, and addressing the social issues of the time. Since its founding, Delta Sigma Theta has become one of the preeminent service-based sororities, with more than 350,000 initiated members and over 1,050 chartered chapters worldwide.
As a sisterhood comprised primarily of Black, college-educated women, the Sorority seriously considers the issues impacting the Black community and boldly confronts the challenges of African Americans and, hence, all Americans. The major programs of the Sorority are based upon the Five-Point Programmatic Thrust: economic development, educational development, international awareness and involvement, physical and mental health, and political awareness and involvement.
